Traditional Chinese Acupuncture

Traditional Chinese Acupuncture is a system of medicine which has been practised in China and other Eastern countries for thousands of years. In a treatment very fine needles are inserted into meridian points to stimulate the body’s own healing response. The stimulation of certain points induces the release of endorphins from the brain which have pain relieving properties. The approach of treatment is holistic so by bringing physical, emotional and spiritual aspects into harmony, overall wellbeing is improved.

When appropriate, moxibustion is used in combination with acupuncture. This is a treatment that brings heat directly to the end of the needles via a heat lamp. This process warms the Qi (energy) and produces a feeling of deep relaxation.

Acupuncture helps many issues including supporting you through weight loss and to stop smoking – please call the Clinic to ask about your condition.

Osteopathy

Osteopathy works with the structure and function of the body. Instead of using drugs, Osteopaths use their extensive knowledge of anatomy, arthrology (joints), myology (muscles), and pathology (disease), along with palpation, to assist diagnosis and to treat individuals using techniques from manipulation and movement of joints and tissues to soft tissue massage. A gentle technique called Cranial Osteopathy may also be used. Osteopathy is a very safe treatment and well established being professionally regulated, just like doctors, with the passing of the The Osteopath Act (1993). All Osteopaths must be registered.

As our lives get busier and we demand more from our bodies, many people suffer occasional aches and pains. However, if you start to experience these on a regular basis, it is your body's way of telling you that something is not right. This is where Osteopathy can help. It assists in alleviating symptoms by addressing the underlying causes and helps prevent them from developing into something more serious.

Cranial Osteopathy

This is a specialist form of osteopathy which recognises a patient's "cranial rhythm". This intrinsic rhythm is the natural contraction and expansion of all body tissues. The hands of a trained Osteopath are able to detect any abnormalities within the rhythm, however minute, and treat accordingly.

Cranial Osteopathy is a very gentle yet powerful treatment that typically involves an Osteopath cradling the patient's head or sacrum (base of spine) in order to feel for any restrictions or strains which may be responsible for a patient's symptoms. The patient may feel a deep sense of relaxation and possibly become aware of heat, tingling, pulsations or other sensations and as physical restrictions are eased, a sense of lightness and well-being follows.

This type of Osteopathy is well known for the treatment of babies and children but it is also suitable for people of all ages and can be used to treat a wide variety of conditions.

Children and Cranial Osteopathy

The birth process is one of the most stressful events of our lives. A baby is subjected to enormous forces and has to twist and turn as it squeezes through the bony pelvis which sometimes results in a baby being born with an odd-shaped head. This can gradually change as the baby suckles, cries and yawns but the process can be incomplete, especially if the birth has been difficult which can lead to various problems.

Cranial Osteopathy can help to alleviate these problems and assist with the normal development of your baby. It is helpful to seek treatment as early as possible as the younger a child is, the better the response to treatment. When calling please ask for an appointment with our Osteopath Gillian McIntosh.

Reflexology

Reflexology is an ancient holistic therapy. It’s basic principle being that there are reflex points on the feet and hands that correspond to every organ, gland and part of the body – in essence, the body is mapped out on the feet and hands. The treatment is usually carried out on the feet and is much more specific than a foot massage.

As an holistic therapy Reflexology treats the whole person and in this way can support you through many ailments of body, mind or spirit by relieving tension, increasing relaxation, improving sleep and general feelings of well-being, thereby helping to build your resilience in the face of life’s stressors.

Reflexology Lymph Drainage

Reflexology Lymph Drainage is an award-winning specialist protocol worked on the feet and developed to help with fluid retention after breast cancer surgery. It may be of help post-surgery as well as for chronic conditions such as Fibromyalgia, ME/CFS, Asthma and other congestive conditions, Pre-Menstrual Syndrome (PMS). A course of treatments is required.

Reiki

Reiki is a non-intrusive therapy that works with universal energy and can bring you well-being on all levels – physical, mental, emotional and spiritual.

The positive, higher vibration of the energy channelled through the practitioner to the client can release energy blockages and lift areas of lower vibrational energy that occur within the physical body as a result of imbalance.

It is a subtle therapy that is wonderfully calming and relaxing.

Pilates

Pilates is not only a great way to improve strength and mobility but is also highly effective for injury rehabilitation and prevention. The focus on controlled movement and core engagement helps to address muscle imbalances and restore proper alignment which can help recovery from back pain and joint issues.

The low impact nature of Pilates makes it gentle on the joints while still providing an intense workout. By strengthening stabilising muscles and promoting flexibility, Pilates can help to prevent future injuries by improving posture, balance and overall body mechanics.

“The Pilates Method teaches you to be in control of your body and not at its mercy”
